 Easter Sunday

Full to the Brim: An Expansive Life

GATHERING

PRELUDE— “Alleluia! Christ is Arisen,” ELW #375

GREETING

L:           Alleluia! Christ is risen!

All:        Christ is risen, indeed! Alleluia!

L:           The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

All: And also with you.

WELCOME

*CALL TO WORSHP

L:    This day is not like any other day.

All:    Today we slow down. Today we take it all in. Today we rest in good news.

L:    This day is not like any other day.

All:    Today we are singing. Today we are full to the brim. Today joy cannot be contained.

L:    This day is not like any other day.

All:    Today the stone was rolled away. Today the women saw the empty grave. Today we know—death does not win.

L:    This day is not like any other day.

All:    Alleluia! Amen

*HYMN— “Jesus Christ is Risen Today,” ELW #365

*CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS

L: Let us come to God, confessing our sin and hearing the good news of life full to the brim. God of abundance,

All: We confess that we don’t return to you fully. We share with you the pieces of our lives that are convenient. We put on different hats in different rooms, hiding our true selves. We forget that we are called, invited, and loved with all that we are—including our mess, our beauty, our faith, and our doubt. Forgive us, and give us hearts that long to return.

L: Friends, God sees you. God hears you. God loves you. God runs to meet you. You are forgiven and claimed with all that you are. Rest in that good news.

All: Thanks be to God, Amen.

*HYMN OF PRAISE— “Now the Feast and Celebration,” ELW #167

*PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

L:    Holy God, we so often long for more. We want more than the hamster wheel life of to-do lists and errands, meal prep and alarm clocks. We want more than comparison and competition. We want more than certainty that drowns out curiosity. We want more than fear that leads to violence. We want a life that is teeming with alleluias. We want a life overcrowded with hope. We want a life congested with good news. We want a life jam-packed with forgiveness. We want a life bursting with laughter. We want a life so full that the stone just has to be rolled away. So today we pray—break the dam. Dust the cobwebs from our ears. Clear space in our minds to hear you clearly. Speak to us as only you can. It’s what we long for. We long for you. Gratefully we pray.

All:    Amen.

L: Let us affirm our faith together:

All: We believe in an expansive love that heals the sick, welcomes the children, and sees this world as it could be. We believe in the God of expansive love, who paves the way in the wilderness, and drenches us in mer- cy. We believe in the God who opens wings of shelter amid the clamor of to-do lists, deadlines, and wor- ries about tomorrow. We believe in the God who calls us worthy and longs for us as a tree longs for water. We believe in the God of relentless pursuit, who refuses to let us stay lost, even when finding us means encountering death, itself. We believe in the God who proclaims, ‘you are beautiful,’ even on our ugliest days. We believe in the God who takes the cup of sorrow from us, who waits in mystery with us, and who calls us forth from our tombs to proclaim a living and abundant grace over all creation. Amen.
